G9 Defense 9mm 80gr External Hollow Point (EHP)
Product Overview
Unmatched Performance and Reliability The G9 Defense 9mm 80gr External Hollow Point (EHP) sets a new standard in personal defense ammunition. Utilizing advanced Shape Charge Technology, this round provides superior effectiveness, reliability, and barrier performance compared to other defensive handgun munitions on the market. The EHP is deployed by law enforcement, military professionals, and responsible citizens for its exceptional reliability and effectiveness in real-world scenarios.
Key Features:
- Advanced Fluid Transfer Technology: The EHP rounds feature fluted channels that funnel a high-speed jet upon contact with fluid and other media present in tissue. The mechanism, known as the Venturi effect, amplifies tissue damage by directing the jet into adjacent tissues, causing extensive tearing and a wound channel greater than 4x that of traditional jacketed hollow points.
 - Consistent Penetration: Optimized to penetrate 18 inches in ballistic gel, ensuring sufficient, controlled penetration with minimal risk of over-penetration that is minimally effected by common barriers.
 - Barrier Blind: Maintains high performance even through barriers such as clothing, drywall, and glass. The EHP rounds effectively neutralize threats while minimizing deflection and increasing reliability.
 - High Reliability: Achieves over 90% reliability, significantly reducing the risk of failure in critical situations compared to traditional hollow points, which fail to expand approximately one-third of the time in gel tests.
 - Reduced Recoil: The lightweight 80gr design ensures lower felt recoil, allowing for faster follow-up shots and improved accuracy.
 - Less Carrying Weight: A loaded EHP weighs in at 24% lighter than a 115gr round, 30% lighter than a 124gr round, and 46% lighter than a 147gr round. This increases comfort for concealed carry and significantly reduces total loadout weight for duty applications.

How It Works
G9’s Shape Charge Technology utilizes the principles of fluid dynamics to create enhanced wound channels. Upon impact, the bullet's flutes channel the non-compressible fluid and media present in tissue into a high-speed jet. This concentrated force maximizes damage by tearing through surrounding tissue, creating a larger and more reliable wound cavity than traditional expanding bullets.
| COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGES | WHAT MAKES THE G9 9MM EHP BETTER? |
|---|---|
| Jacketed Hollow Points (JHP) | Hollow points fail to expand approximately 33% of the time, this rate increases sharply after encountering barriers. EHP rounds eliminate expansion failures, providing consistent performance and larger wound channels than JHPs. |
| Full Metal Jackets (FMJ) | The EHP offers controlled penetration with significantly more tissue damage than Full Metal Jacket rounds. FMJs do have less than a 10% failure rate and perform better than JHP or frangible rounds through barriers, but usually over-penetrate and create smaller wound channels. |
| Frangible Rounds | G9 ensures effective penetration and extensive wound cavities, surpassing shallow frangible wounds seen with Frangible rounds. Frangible rounds have an extremely high failure rate, mainly due to their design to fragment upon impact, resulting in shallow wounds and complete inability to perform through common barriers. |
| Tumbling Rounds | Tumbling rounds fail to achieve the intended tumbling effect more than half of the time, leading to inconsistent performance. The EHP delivers predictable and consistent performance without relying on unpredictable tumbling effects to produce wounding. |

Best Practices
As with any defensive ammunition, confirm function and POI in your firearm before carry. Evaluate from typical carry distances and note ejection, feeding, and where impacts print relative to your zero.
FAQs
Will it keep the same POI as my practice ammo?
POI varies by firearm and load. For 9mm, a lightweight training round such as 115gr will often track closer to EHP than 124/147gr practice loads. EHP is engineered for POI consistency and function across common barrel lengths and twist rates, but you should confirm POI and function in your pistol and test which training ammo best matches your setup.
Is this suitable for short-barrel pistols?
Yes. Because performance does not rely on an expansion window, EHP maintains consistent terminal behavior over a wide velocity band, including compact pistols.
How should I test before carry?
Run a function/POI check (e.g., 20–40 rounds) at your carry distances. Note feeding/ejection and where impacts print relative to your zero.
How does “barrier blind” apply here?
EHP is tested to perform consistently and with minimal deflection through common intermediate materials while maintaining the intended terminal effect. Always verify in your firearm.
Can I use EHP with compensated or ported barrels?
Generally yes. EHP is compatible with comps/ports. The 80gr EHP uses significantly more powder than heavier grain rounds which lead to the device having a greater effedct muzzle velocity and recoil impulse, which may shift POI and affect timing on some pistols. Verify function and POI in your setup, and keep ports/comp baffles clean to minimize copper fouling.

9mm 80 gr EHP
I got 6 shots of 10 in a 3" circle at 10 yds. using a CZ P10-F with a 4.5" barrel. Minimal recoil. As far as accuracy I'm pretty happy with it.

80gr
My original box that was shipped to me had a flipped primer, G9 sent me a replacement box the day I informed them.

My comments are related to accuracy only, as that is the only testing I have done so far. the only testing I've
I shot these 9mm EHP ammo in my EDC , Sig 365XL, 5 shot group at 25 yrds and got 2" grouping! I think they shoot better than I do!

G9 +P
These little guys are awesome. They cut the weight of my mags loaded full, by half. Ballistic tests look gnarly and they cycle like a dream. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who values self defense as a carry round.

Best Self-Defense Round
I was unaware of your company until Karl Erickson of the Tactical Rifleman YouTube channel did a review and testing of your 9 mm ammo.. Your 9 mm ammo out performed all others in tests in ballistic gelatin. I look forward to buying more of your ammo and in other calibers

Special purpose rounds
I like the entire catalog of G9 in 9mm, the EHP for daily carry, the Woodsman for animal defense in remote wilderness, and the subsonics for SBR carbine use. There is range ammo and there is G9, when you have work to do.
