G9 Defense 9mm 80gr External Hollow Point (EHP)
Product Overview
Unmatched Performance and Reliability The G9 Defense 9mm 80gr External Hollow Point (EHP) sets a new standard in personal defense ammunition. Utilizing advanced Shape Charge Technology, this round provides superior effectiveness, reliability, and barrier performance compared to other defensive handgun munitions on the market. The EHP is deployed by law enforcement, military professionals, and responsible citizens for its exceptional reliability and stopping power in real-world scenarios.
Key Features:
- Advanced Fluid Transfer Technology: The EHP rounds feature fluted channels that create a high-speed jet of liquid tissue upon impact. This mechanism, known as the Venturi effect, amplifies tissue damage by directing the fluid jet into adjacent tissues, causing extensive tearing and a larger wound channel.
- Consistent Penetration: Optimized to penetrate 18 inches in ballistic gel, ensuring sufficient, controlled penetration with minimal risk of over-penetration that is minimally effected by common barriers.
- Barrier Blind: Maintains high performance even through barriers such as clothing, drywall, and glass. The EHP rounds effectively neutralize threats while minimizing deflection and increasing reliability.
- High Reliability: Achieves over 90% reliability, significantly reducing the risk of failure in critical situations compared to traditional hollow points, which fail to expand approximately one-third of the time in gel tests.
- Reduced Recoil: The lightweight 80gr design ensures lower felt recoil, allowing for faster follow-up shots and improved accuracy.
- Less Carrying Weight: A loaded EHP weighs in at 24% lighter than a 115gr round, 30% lighter than a 124gr round, and 46% lighter than a 147gr round. This increases comfort for concealed carry and significantly reduces total loadout weight for duty applications.
How It Works
G9’s Shape Charge Technology utilizes the principles of fluid dynamics to enhance wound channels. Upon impact, the bullet's flutes channel liquefied tissue into a high-speed jet. This concentrated force maximizes damage by tearing through surrounding tissue, creating a larger and more reliable wound cavity than traditional expanding bullets.
COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGES | WHAT MAKES THE G9 9MM EHP BETTER? |
---|---|
Jacketed Hollow Points (JHP) | Hollow points fail to expand approximately 33% of the time, this rate increases sharply after encountering barriers. EHP rounds eliminate expansion failures, providing consistent performance and larger wound channels than JHPs. |
Full Metal Jackets (FMJ) | The EHP offers controlled penetration with significantly more tissue damage than Full Metal Jacket rounds. FMJs do have less than a 10% failure rate and perform better than JHPs or Frangibles through barriers, but usually over-penetrate and create smaller wound channels. |
Frangible Rounds | G9 ensures effective penetration and extensive wound cavities, surpassing shallow frangible wounds seen with Frangible rounds. Frangible rounds have about a 15% failure rate, mainly due to their design to fragment upon impact, resulting in shallow wounds and complete inability to perform through common barriers. |
Tumbling Rounds | Tumbling rounds fail to achieve the intended tumbling effect over 50% of the time, leading to inconsistent performance. The EHP delivers predictable and consistent performance without relying on unpredictable tumbling effects to produce wounding. |

9mm 80gr +P
I have seen these rounds for awhile but never took them seriously thinking they were another flash in the pan niche ammo. Inwas wrong I have always carried speer gold dot 124 gr +P ammo thinking it's the best proven ammo but started researching the G9 after I attended a demonstration for LEOs and was impressed. I purchased 200 rounds from G9 and have tested this ammo for myself and was very impressed l. Not I have replaced my gold dots with G9 in all my 9mm and plan to buy a case of the 9mm subsonic for my SBR, from what I have seen this round out preforms the speer gold dot and is 44 gr lighter making a difference in carrying all day without the compromise.

9mm +P
I shot 6 boxes of G9 +P9mm alternating reloads between 120 rounds of G9 and 750, 115 grain FMJ in one range session with zero feeding, firing, extracting issues. I used an S&W Shield EZ and a G19 gen 4. 3 boxes of G9 through each pistol. I didn't notice any signs of extra wear and tear, or damage and cleaning wasnt even that bad, but at at only 60 rounds of G9 through each pistol amd one range session with this ammo, it's to early to really notice any long term usage problems yet. I would shoot more of this ammo, but the cost does make it a little prohibitive for consistent training, so I Shoot lots of 115 grain FMJ. G9 +P 9mm still gets 5 stars though it performed flawlessly.
